Reviewing Pancakes & Maple Jelly Beans, Ovation Pumpkin Spice, and Alter Eco Chocolate Bars

Updated:

This snack review has Jelly Belly Pancakes & Maple Syrup Jelly Beans, Ovation Milk Swiss Chocolate Break-A-Parts With Pumpkin Spice Filling, and a variety of Alter Eco chocolate bars including: Truffle Thins Silk Velvet Dark, Almond Grass Fed Milk, and 70% Cacao Salt & Malt Dark Chocolates. While I wasn’t a fan of most of these, the one that stood out were the jelly beans due to how interesting they were. I was a bit disappointed in the Alter Eco bars as I expected more from such a brand.

Jelly Belly Pancakes & Maple Syrup Jelly Beans

Score: 5 / 10

These smell strongly of a sweet artificial maple syrup. The taste matches quite closely in addition to a pancake-like taste. Overall, it’s a pretty sweet, artificial, off-tasting pancake and maple syrup. You might like this if you’re into the taste and textures of wacky jelly beans.

Released April 2015.

Ovation Milk Swiss Chocolate Break-A-Parts With Pumpkin Spice Filling

Score: 6 / 10

Front package of Ovation Pumpkin Spice Swiss Milk Chocolate with Pumpkin Spice Filling Break-A-Parts ball.

Fairly sweet tasting milk chocolate with a thin layer of light tasting pumpkin spice filling that’s also on the sweeter side. The filling is soft but in a hardened state, and overall, the chocolate with the filling is solid but easy to bite through. It can be a bit difficult to break a part and frustrating to eat. I also do wish it had a stronger pumpkin spice taste.

Frey has been around since the late 1800s and while I’m not sure exactly when this product was released, reviews date back to several years ago. Found at Ocean State Job Lot.

Alter Eco Truffle Thins Silk Velvet Organic Dark Chocolate Bar

Score: 6.5 / 10

Front package of Alter Eco Truffle Thins Silk Velvet Organic Dark Chocolate bar.

Taste is identical to a fairly standard, dark tasting truffle. It’s semi-sweet overall and has a thin layer of soft chocolate filling inside. Notably, the inside wrappers have facts about sustainability and how they source their ingredients.

Alter Eco has been around since 2009. I’m not sure when this was exactly released but reviews date back to around 2019.

Alter Eco Almond Grass Fed Milk Organic Chocolate Bar

Score: 6 / 10

Front package of Alter Eco Almond Grass Fed Milk Organic Chocolate Bar.

A bit dark and bitter, it’s also still pretty sweet overall. There’s a light crunch here and there from embedded almonds, although the almond taste doesn’t come through much. This candy bar is a bit boring and standard.

Alter Eco has been around since 2009. Not sure when this was released.

Alter Eco 70% Cacao Salt & Malt Organic Dark Chocolate Bar.

Score: 5 / 10

Front package of Alter Eco 70% Cacao Salt & Malt Organic Dark Chocolate Bar.

It’s not really a malt flavor, it’s instead a fairly dark and bitter chocolate tasting bar. The addition of salt is noticable but not overwhelming. Overall, semi-sweet.

Alter Eco has been around since 2009. Not sure when this was released.
