A Ranking and Tier List of Muddy Bites Filled Waffle Cones

Updated:

Reviewing, comparing, and giving you the history of all the Muddy Bites Filled Waffle Cones I have found so far!

Overall Review & Verdict

Muddy Bites are filled waffle cones. They generally command a premium over other waffle-filled cone brands. In addition, they generally don’t include much in their packaging.

The big question, then, is: are they worth it? What do they taste like? Do they feel premium and worth the cost?

Long story short, I would say these are lackluster, especially considering their price. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that even if they were a little more generous with their pricing and the amount they give you, I still don’t think it would be worth it.

First and foremost, the waffle cones themselves are a combination of a soft cookie biscuit and a normal, snappy, crunchy waffle cone. This leads to a softer mouth feel while still retaining a reasonable crunch. They’re also quite large, some of the largest I’ve come across in the waffle cone snack aisle. On the other hand, they’re barely filled; in fact, at best, they’re only around between 50 and 60% filled with most of their cones.

This filling is nothing to write home about, either; it’s okay, soft enough, but also quite solid–think of a smidge softer large chocolate chip. Since the waffle cone itself isn’t too crunchy and the filling already has a more solid texture, you get a uniform eating experience with little contrast between the cone and the filling. Basically, either the filling needs to be softer, or the cone needs a snappier crunch.

Now, regarding the flavor.

The cone is mostly plain; it has a very, very light buttery, graham-cracker taste, but I’ve had much better cones from other brands. Overall, I do feel the cones themselves are generally too plain.

The flavor of the innards is a similar story. All of these have authentic tasting fillings, which is great; however, they feel lackluster because they aren’t sweet enough. In fact, they’re one of the least sweet-filled waffle cones I’ve had. Perhaps there are people without a huge sweet tooth who would prefer these, I’m not sure.

In summary, Muddy Bites Filled Cones generally fall short on flavor and sweetness, as well as their pricing and portion sizes. Their cones need more pronounced flavors, better contrast between the filling and the cone, and, straight up, more sugar throughout.

With that, I’m only going to go over what they taste like and how the flavors all work together, because, again, these are all fairly similar in sweetness and composition.

Ranking

1. Peanut Butter Chocolate

Score: 8.25 / 10

Review

Why is this flavor in particular so much different than the others on this list? They’re much more pronounced, not to mention, these are much sweeter than any other flavors on here!

You immediately smell the peanut and semi-dark chocolate when opening the bag and biting in, it’s exactly that. A fairly sweet, rich, dark chocolate and peanut butter that reminds me of a less artificial and less sweet version of a Reese’s. As a Reese’s fan, in a way, this might actually rival the flavor profile and overall taste of its candy competitor!

It’s so rich, and the sugar level is perfect, balancing out both the peanut and dark chocolate flavor. The peanut butter tastes authentic, the chocolate is dark, sweet, not at all bitter–everything about this is a chocolate peanut lover’s dream!

But really, why are the flavors and sweetness here so much different and more pronounced than any other cone on the list? This is how it should be!

Good job, Muddy Bites, at least for this flavor!

Release Date

While I can’t find an exact release date for this flavor, this special edition football packaging was released on January 16, 2026, at Target. Found at Target in mid-February 2026.

2. Girl Scout Thin Mints

Score: 7.5 / 10

Review

The entire thing, from the waffle cone to the filling, is dark chocolate with a pleasant, thin mint flavor. Notably, because it lacks strong sweetness, the mint isn’t all that strong; at the same time, it works well with the more subtle dark chocolate notes. Neither overpower one another, making for an enjoyable, balanced combination!

Overall, these do resemble the Girl Scout Thin Mints in terms of flavor, though it’s a less-sweet version where the flavors aren’t as strong either. At the very least, I also found the flavor, boldness, and sugar level a little bit above most of their other waffle-flavored cones–perhaps the chocolate cone here is doing a lot of the legwork!

Release Date

Released April 29, 2024. Found at Ocean State Job Lot.

3. Muddy Bites Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Double Fudge Fright Waffle Cone Snacks

Score: 7.25 / 10

Review

These are more or less your average filled waffle cones, though one of the darker ones you may come across as both the shell and the filling sport a darker flavor. Despite being on the darker side, it’s reasonably sweet, the inside is creamy, and it’s not at all bitter — it’s a pleasant treat even if you aren’t into dark chocolate. The entire cone is uniform with this flavor, as both the shell and filling taste identical. Personally, I would have liked to see some variation in some way.

Not to mention, the packaging is definitely cool!

Release Date

Released around mid-September 2025. Found at Whole Foods mid-October 2025.

4. Strawberry Shortcake / Roundup

Score: 7.25 / 10

Review

A darker red shell encases a soft-solid, pale pinkish-white filling. Biting in, there’s a light crunch from the outside shell, and the inside is fairly solid but still creamy and soft, providing a mild contrast. In terms of taste, it’s pretty sweet, especially compared to other Muddy Bites, and sports a sugary strawberry flavor. It’s not artificial or too fake-tasting, either; it’s simply a pleasant, sweet, and creamy strawberry, both from the shell to the inside filling. The flavor as a whole reminds me of a Hostess Strawberry Cupcake, if you’re looking for a reference.

Release Date

While I can’t find an exact release date, other reviewers note some time around early to mid March 2026. Found on the Target website in early May 2026.

5. Dubai

Score: 7 / 10

Review

These look entirely like their regular dark chocolate waffle cones. I guess I expected something on top, but upon inspecting the package, I was wrong.

On the inside is a greenish soft filling, notably softer than other Muddy Bites fillings. When I bit in, I immediately noticed how soft the filling was. The taste was a creamy, lightly sweet dark chocolate. It wasn’t bitter by any means, nor super cocoa-like; it was between milk and dark chocolate, likely because the filling brought down the dark chocolate of the shell.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any explicit Dubai or nutty flavors, and the waffle’s crunch likely overrode the inner filling’s crunchiness. Overall, these are just regular waffle cones that are pleasant to eat, noticeably creamy, and have a darker chocolate flavor.

Release Date

Released around early April 2026. Found on the Target website in early May 2026.

6. Girl Scout Coconut Caramel

Score 7 / 10

Review

This filling is mildly sweet, with equally mild coconut and caramel flavors. You can really taste both flavors despite them being on the less-sweet side, which is notable. I wouldn’t say these are nearly as sweet or strongly flavored as their Girl Scout cookie counterparts; however, the texture is somewhat similar: a light crunch with a softer part — the soft-solid inside.

So overall, these not only need more filling but also more sweetness to boost that flavor; then, they’d be much, much better!

Release Date

Initially released at Whole Foods in May 2025. Found at Whole Foods in July 2025.

7. Candy Cane

Score: 6.75 / 10

Review

Candy cane? This will surely have a super bold peppermint… Right? Well, for better or worse, nope!

It’s reasonably creamy with a pretty mild peppermint taste. It comes across as more smooth than punchy, and definitely not as hard-hitting as even a candy cane. It feels like a mix between white chocolate, cream, and sugar, and of course, a light dousing of peppermint flavor. I guess the good news is that if you’re worried about any toothpaste tastes or bitter peppermint, you won’t have to here!

Lastly, the waffle cone part doesn’t contribute much here due to the lack of its own flavor and the fact that the filling already has a more pronounced flavor.

Release Date

Released early fall 2024 alongside other flavors. Found early November 2025 on the Muddy Bites website.

8. Cookies ‘N Cream

Score: 6.75 / 10

Review

A dark chocolate shell with a very mildly sweet, creamy, vanilla-based filling, that’s all we pretty much have here. Nothing screams cookies and cream necessarily, as the flavors and sweetness don’t seem as pronounced as they should be. At the very least, the contrast between the super-lightly sweet dark cocoa tasting shell and the mild cream flavor filling is okay together; it’s just that nothing really jumps out.

Release Date

Released mid-April 2023. Found at Walmart late January 2026.

9. Hot Cocoa

Score: 6.5 / 10

Review

This filling tastes nearly identical to regular milk chocolate, mildly sweet at best, and most importantly, it has hardly any dark or cocoa-y notes I can appreciate. Plus, no marshmallow, and the lackluster-tasting waffle cone makes it feel like it could have been a good s’mores cone — also assuming it had an actual, notable hot cocoa taste… so much potential, wasted!

Release Date

While I can’t find an exact release date, their social media mentions this in mid-November 2025. I personally noticed this, and a Candy Cane flavor was available as early as September 2025 on their website. I bought this in mid-November 2025 from the Muddy Bites website.

10. Milk Chocolate

Score: 6.25 / 10

Review

Just… meh.

Mildly sweet overall with a tame, basic, authentic, and inoffensive milk chocolate candy taste and a hint of graham cone flavor from the cone itself. That’s really it.

Coupled with the already nearly bland waffle cone, this boring inner filling makes the whole experience and taste lackluster. What are they trying to do here?

It needs more sugar and more of a bold chocolate flavor, to say the least.

Release Date

Likely released when they were founded in 2018. I bought this in mid-December 2025 from the Muddy Bites website.

11. Milk: Sweet or Heat Challenge

Score: 5.5 / 10

Review

The smell is a regular, mildly sweet chocolate. Nothing suspicious, right?
Biting into a few, the first several were their regular chocolate-flavored cones: mildly sweet milk chocolate with a super light buttery waffle taste–yup, exactly like their chocolate ones.

The milk chocolate ones in here, again, are tame with their sweetness and comprise a generic chocolate taste. Honestly, it’s kind of a boring, inoffensive chocolate and sweetness level that seems to be meant to impress even those without a sweet tooth.

Then, finally, it hits you.

The few spicy ones included, which look identical to the chocolate, have a kick with a hot spiciness that lingers for several seconds alongside a subtle chocolate flavor. It is unexpected when you bite into it because the spiciness isn’t immediate, and their appearance is identical to their chocolate counterparts.

I especially enjoyed the fact that it wasn’t just “spicy to be spicy,” no, the cone and chocolate added some nuance, which was great! Not to mention, you’re already snacking through the boring chocolate-flavored ones, so it’s actually a surprise when you get something that impactful.

Overall, personally, I didn’t find the spicy versions too bad, but if you can’t handle heat, you may want to think twice. These were an interesting and unique experience that I’m glad I tried; however, I likely wouldn’t buy them again.

Notably, most were chocolate, and only around three were spicy in our package.

Release Date

Released around mid-August 2025 as a limited edition. I bought this in mid-December 2025 from the Muddy Bites website.

12. Dark

Score: 5.5 / 10

Review

When they say dark, they mean it. It’s a fairly dark chocolate filling that comes across as semi-bitter and mildly sweet. It’s not as creamy as the other flavors or most other filled waffles I’ve had, either. The composition of the waffle is similar to that of the other Muddy Buddies. Not sweet enough for me personally, plus, I’d prefer something creamier!

Release Date

Likely released when they were founded in 2018. Found at Whole Foods late December 2025.
