
Black Forest Poke Cake
This Black Forest poke cake is rich, indulgent, and surprisingly easy to make. A moist chocolate cake is baked, poked, and filled with chocolate fudge syrup and tart cherries, then topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. It’s the perfect crowd-pleasing dessert for holidays, birthdays, or any special occasion.
Equipment
- 13×9 inch baking pan or other specified pan on boxed cake mix
- Baking / oil spray
- parchment paper (optional)
- Stand mixer (if using whipping cream)
Ingredients
- boxed cake mix chocolate, dark chocolate, devil’s food, German chocolate, etc
- boxed cake ingredients
- 20 oz canned cherry pie filling / topping
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream or cool whip
- 1 cup sugar
- large bar of chocolate
- jar of chocolate fudge or syrup
Instructions
- Line baking pan with parchment paper (optional) and bake as directed on cake mix. Let cool.
- Poke holes along cake.
- Line cake with a thin layer of heated fudge / syrup then top with the container of cherries.
- If you aren’t using whipping cream, skip to next step. Create whipped cream from whipping cream and sugar by beating for several minutes and adding powdered sugar as it starts to stabilize.
- Evenly layer whipping cream (or cool whip) onto cake.
- Chop up chocolate bar into various little sizes and spread evenly onto cake.
- Store in refrigerator for up to several days.
