Black Forest Poke Cake

Yield: 13×9 inch sheet cake or similar

Ingredients

  • boxed cake mix (chocolate, dark chocolate, devil’s food, German chocolate, etc)
  • boxed cake ingredients
  • 20 oz canned cherry pie filling / topping
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • OR cool whip (to replace whipping cream and sugar)
  • large bar of chocolate
  • jar of chocolate fudge or syrup

Utensils

  • 13×9 inch baking pan or other specified pan on boxed cake mix
  • Baking / oil spray
  • Parchment paper (optional)
  • Stand mixer (if using whipping cream)

Let’s Make It!

  1. Line baking pan with parchment paper (optional) and bake as directed on cake mix. Let cool.
  2. Poke holes along cake.
  3. Line cake with a thin layer of heated fudge / syrup then top with the container of cherries.
  4. If you aren’t using whipping cream, skip to next step. Create whipped cream from whipping cream and sugar by beating for several minutes and adding powdered sugar as it starts to stabilize.
  5. Evenly layer whipping cream (or cool whip) onto cake.
  6. Chop up chocolate bar into various little sizes and spread evenly onto cake.
