Hostess Cupcakes Frosted S’mores Cake

Score: 8 / 10

These are somewhat different than their regular vanilla-based cupcake brothers, albeit only a little.

The cake itself does seem to have just a hint of graham cracker alongside a vanilla cake base, toning down some of its traditional sweetness. The chocolate is light, coming from the top layer, and the cream does seem more or less the same as regular Hostess Cupcakes but perhaps with an essence of marshmallow.

Basically, these are very reminiscent of their vanilla cupcakes with chocolate tops but with a smidge of graham cracker taste if you pretend hard enough. S’mores? No. Good? Yup.

As a side note, refrigerating these yields a much denser, more satisfying texture, essentially making them feel more premium.

Released July 9, 2025, for a limited time, according to some, while others report as early as July 2020. I found them in late June at Walmart.

Great Value Crunchy Queso Ripple Potato Chips

Score: 7.25 / 10

Perhaps one of the best chips I’ve had. Like, it’s amazing, really! You can taste a bold, authentic, and punchy queso that’s seasoned perfectly. I feel like it’s a mix of cheddar and other cheeses covered with a mix of spices and a tiny, tiny kick—it feels perfect! Compared to other queso- and cheese-based chips I’ve had, this is my favorite so far, including the other Great Value chips that advertise cheesy flavors.

The texture is great too! Crunchy, thick chips—they feel just right and ready to eat whole or for dipping. Overall, balanced, bold, and premium-feeling chips!

I can’t find an exact release date for this; however, I first spotted them at Walmart in June 2025.

Doritos: Tangy Pickle, Hot Mustard, & Tangy Ketchup

Scores
Tangy Pickle: 5.25 / 10
Hot Mustard: 5.5 / 10
Tangy Ketchup: 5.5 / 10

Tangy Pickle: I’m surprised! This is one of the few Doritos flavors where the advertised flavor overpowers the Doritos corn taste. It’s a fairly strong pickle flavor, being reasonably punchy and accurate. Nothing weird or off. Still, it simply isn’t my cup of tea, as I much prefer this flavor with regular chips.

Hot Mustard: Ever have that spicy mustard? It’s exactly that! Granted, it’s not too spicy, but there is a light, zesty kick. Of course, the mustard flavor is also present too. Overall, it’s very accurate to Hot Mustard.

Tangy Ketchup: This is a pretty in-your-face ketchup flavor. It’s bold and well seasoned, perhaps one of the strongest ketchups I’ve had, especially amongst snacks and chips. Accurately flavored, bold, and unique.

Ketchup and Mustard was released in August 2022, and Pickle in 2021 or earlier. They were later rereleased around May 2025. Found on the TikTok Shop.

Baskin Robbins Chocolates: Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Score: 7.25 / 10 (for both)

Long story short, for both of these candies, they have a thick shell and a modestly sweet inside that isn’t as strongly flavored as other candies. If you’re looking for a powerful mint or extraordinary cookie dough, these aren’t it. I also like how cute the design is of these—they house individually wrapped pieces of candy.

Mint Chocolate: Pretty sweet with a non-bitter, non-punchy minty taste—and don’t worry, it does not resemble toothpaste or anything weird, as the mint isn’t too strong like other candies! They offer a modest crunch from the slightly dark chocolate shell when biting in, where you’re greeted with that soft and sweet green mint filling. It’s a good piece of candy and, to me, seems inoffensive, especially to those who may be prone to not liking mint-type candies.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough: Imagine modestly sweet dark chocolate coupled with a very tame cookie dough cream. This is what these candies are. I really had thought the cookie dough would be the star of the show, but it ends up being the thick chocolate shell, overpowering the cookie dough cream inside. At the very least, the cookie dough clearly has cookie bits, which does help aid in the composition. Most notably, to be clear, this cookie dough is a cream, not your typical cookie dough, and for me, it’s less sweet and bold-flavored than I’d like.

Released August 2024. Found at Target.

Bobo’s PB&Js Strawberry and Grape Oat Bars

Scores
Strawberry: 7.75 / 10
Grape: 7.25 / 10

Strawberry: For an oat bar, this is surprisingly creamy and moist. It tastes like real, authentic oats, but it’s not bitter or earthy, instead falling in moderately sweet territory while still remaining refreshing. Further, it’s perfectly soft and mildly chewy with a great mouthfeel.

The inner center has a thin layer of strawberry and peanut butter, which offers a light, complementary flavor to the already nice taste of the oat bar. Neither are overpowering or artificial, and notably, they aren’t nearly as strong as the sweet jams or peanut butters you find on store shelves. In a way, it vibes perfectly with its oat shell; on the other hand, if you’re looking for a bold, punchy fruit or peanut flavor, you won’t find it here. Overall, this filling is smooth and extraordinarily creamy tasting, just like its oat shell.

Overall, and I can’t emphasize this enough, I don’t understand how something so oaty can be creamy and this moist, offering an oat experience I haven’t had before. I expected the traditional dry, earthy-oat, organic taste, but this does away with it completely while still remaining authentically tasty, especially with its mild, filled center. The combination of the oat shell and smooth-tasting inside is fantastic!

Grape: Identical to the strawberry in every regard except the flavor. So, instead of a mild, more creamy strawberry, this has a bit more powerful, straight-in-your-face grape jelly flavor. Think Welch’s or the many other grape jellies, but slightly lighter (yes, I said it’s strong, but not THAT strong).

It’s more punchy than its strawberry sister, overpowering the peanut. Lastly, and most importantly, I found the filling to be less creamy overall and more artificial—still, the artificialness doesn’t get in the way much.

Both were released in July 2024. Found on Amazon.

Nabisco Fudge Covered Nutter Butter Cookies

Score: 7 / 10

These round cookies remind me of Oreos, albeit peanut-based. The overall peanut flavor isn’t too bold, strong, or artificial. It tastes like a moderate and authentic peanut with some sugar thrown in. The thin milk chocolate shell also adds a tiny bit of complementary flavor too. Overall, the cookie is pleasant and just sweet enough to be inoffensive and appeal to most people.

The texture is just like an Oreo: crunchy—about typical of a regular sandwich cookie, and not feeling cheap nor premium. Unfortunately, the chocolate shell doesn’t add too much aside from a smoothness to the hand-feel.

So, while I love peanut and chocolate, these cookies aren’t as strong as I’d like. They’re good, just not great. If you’re hoping for a super rich and bold chocolatey peanut experience, you won’t find it here.

Released January 2019. Found at Stop & Shop.

Cheez-It Wendy’s Baconator Crackers

Score: 5.75 / 10

The first few bites, I do taste a light bacon flavor and some burger-like seasoning. Baconator, however? Eh, it does have the essence of one—the bacon, light seasoning—and there is clearly that traditional Cheez-It flavor along with it. It’s not bad; however, it does taper down as you eat more, and the traditional Cheez-It cheesy flavor takes over more.

So, basically, a mildly meaty Cheez-It! Personally, however, I would opt for a bolder, meatier regular potato chip.

Released July 2025. Found at Aldi.

Cheetos Mexican Street Corn

Score: 6.5 / 10

When I think of Cheetos, I think of messy and full of cheesy flavor. Instead, these are more tame.

These are coated with authentic street corn seasoning, and with the corn flavor of Cheetos, it’s a really tasty combination. The flavor isn’t super strong, which is surprising for a Cheeto; it’s there, however, not “in your face” there. I can taste the creaminess, traditional spices, as well as a tiny kick.

Overall, these are great, and if I had to compare them to regular Cheetos, I’d say these are for people with more refined tastes, someone who wants something different but still enjoyable.

Released May 2021. Found at Stop & Shop.

Dulzura Coconut and Guava Bites

Score: 6.75 / 10

For a Latin-based sweet, this definitely feels American for how sugary it is. Indeed, the flavor itself is an authentic mild guava with an even lighter coconut, but the bar as a whole consists mostly of a sugary sweet taste.

What is especially nice is the texture. It reminds me of a soft oat bar: moist, chewy, and dense, with crumbled pieces (coconut and guava?) mixed in throughout as if they weren’t fully ground down. It’s that small, contrasting, nuanced texture I really appreciate.

I’m unsure of an exact release date. Found at Stop & Shop.
