Original Life
Not as great as it’s Cinnamon counterpart, these are overall just a solid cereal with decent texture.
Count Chocula
Something about this chocolate feels cheap. The texture of the cereal is thin and the chocolate taste is just… okay. It’s not as sweet as I’d like and the chocolate flavor isn’t bold or special, it’s just kind of there. The marshmallows also add nothing to the composition or flavor either. Basically, just a generic, almost cheap-feeling chocolate cereal.
One of the first Monster Cereals released back in 1971, this history has an extensive history. This cereal and the other Monster Cereals release around Halloween for a limited time.
Note: Images are of the 2022 version where General Mills partnered with artist Kaws.
Trix Loaded
Trix 2.0! The same flavor and sweetness as Trix but so much more soft and enjoyable. Dry, they are soft with a tiny moist, mostly unnoticeable filling, and in milk, they get even more softer, almost soggy at a certain point. Nowhere near as crunchy or hard as regular Trix. Cereal milk is slightly fruity.
Released January 2024 alongside loaded versions of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Cocoa Puffs.
Pumpkin Spice Frosted Flakes
Fairly sweet, perhaps a tad sweeter than regular Frosted Flakes, with a noticable but not overly strong pumpkin spice taste with the usual Frosted Flakes texture. In milk, interestingly, the pumpkin spice flavor gets toned down but the sweetness doesn’t, essentially becoming a sweet Frosted Flakes with just a hint of pumpkin.
Initially released around late summer 2018 for the fall season. These have seemingly come back every year around the same time.
Kellogg’s Wednesday Cookie & Creme Cereal
All chocolate, no creme. This chocolate is definitely on the darker side, however, there is still enough sweetness to satisfy either a kid or adult. When it’s dry, it’s fairly crunchy, though not nearly as much as cereals like Reese’s Puffs or Cocoa Puffs. In milk, it softens somewhat and still retains some crunch. Unfortunately, there aren’t many marshmallows and the few that are there don’t add anything in terms of flavor or texture. The good news is that the cereal quickly turns the milk quite dark, giving it some of that dark chocolate flavor.
Released around June 2024 in some countries and around early September 2024 in the US.
The Elf on the Shelf Hot Cocoa Cereal
This is the definition of milk chocolate. Literally, everything about it. It’s moderately sweet and has the most traditional milk chocolate taste you’ll likely ever encounter. The texture is crunchy and almost a bit rough, and in milk, it stays crunchy. What’s nice is that while the cereal itself doesn’t lose its taste or sweetness in milk, the milk itself does become a nice chocolate milk. There’s barely any marshmallows and they’re also way too small to notice.
Released around October / November 2021 exclusively for Walmart, limited edition. This cereal along with other Elf on the Shelf cereals make their returns around the fall and winter holidays every year.
Oreo O’s
If you threw in just the cookie part of an Oreo into milk, this is mostly it though less dark and less sweet. It does stay pretty crunchy in milk though. Too bad it doesn’t have more of that sweet crème taste which it sorely needs as this cereal is just a semi-sweet, semi-dark chocolate cereal. Cereal milk is pretty plain.
Released 1997, discontinued in 2007, and rereleased in 2017.
Mega Stuf Oreo O’s
Oreo O’s with a few marshmallows. This cereal is a bit gritty and crunchy. When it’s dry, the taste is mostly regular chocolate tasting, nothing really like an Oreo. It’s missing the sweetness and dark flavor. In milk though, the taste comes out more and you can start to taste of that traditional Oreo flavor. It does stay mostly crunchy in milk and the cereal milk is flavorless. Overall, needs a lot more marshmallows, sweetness, and that traditional dark Oreo cookie flavor.
First released June 2019 then discontinued in December 2020. Rereleased January 2024 for a limited time alongside Chips Ahoy!.
Fruity Pebbles Waffles
This is the biggest cereal box I’ve ever seen!
As for taste, it’s exactly in the name. When dry, it’s nicely crunchy, and there is a noticable but not overpowering maple taste alongside a light Fruity Pebbles flavor. It’s nowhere near as sweet as regular Fruity Pebbles and that makes sense, a waffle isn’t usually super duper sweet.
In milk, however, the taste gets dulled, though you can still make out what it’s supposed to resemble. It does get a soggy-soft, not spongey, and the cereal milk has a taste of, “I wish this was regular Fruity Pebbles instead, not this lackluster version.” Indeed, if you’re expecting the traditionally super sweet Fruity Pebbles anywhere in this cereal, look elsewhere.
Released May / June 2024 for the summer season alongside other limited edition cereals.
Great Value Blueberry Pie
They absolutely copied Cinnamon Toast Crunch minus the flavor. The texture, shape, and even the coating are identical to it; dry, it’s identical, and in milk, it’s the same. The taste though is quite different. It has a notable but not overly powerful semi-sweet blueberry taste. None of it is off-putting or artificial, it’s actually quite pleasant. In milk, it loses a little bit of the flavor.
Released early May 2024. Exclusive to Walmart, limited edition.
Special K Banana & Creme
Mostly consists of the typical sweet Special K bran with an addition of a small amount of mini freeze dried banana pieces. These added banana pieces are a little hard even when soaked in milk, and they also have a candy banana taste, although not as sweet. I would have liked them to taste more “real” as well as adding more of them to the cereal itself.
Released around early May 2024.
March Munch Cinnamon Crunch
Taste and texture is that of a knock off Cinnamon Toast Crunch. t’s still decent, although not as cinnamony or sugary as CTC. Texture is slightly different, a bit more stiff, and it doesn’t get as soft in milk. Milk also doesn’t get that cinnamony and sweet like CTC.
Made by the still fairly new (as of early 2023) and small PLB Sports & Entertainment company. This cereal depicts Brad Marchand. I can’t find a release date but I found it in February 2023 at a grocery store.
Catalina Crunch – Chocolate Peanut Butter
Smells a lot like peanut butter. The taste is a stevia’ish, semi-sweet chocolate peanut butter as advertised. Texture is fairly crunchy and thick, and in milk, it stays pretty crunchy as well. Doesn’t lose flavor in milk and the cereal milk itself is plain.
Catalina Crunch started in 2017 with various flavors, not sure when this specific one was released.
Amazon’s Happy Belly Big Berry Crunch Cereal
A cheaper off-brand of Cap’n Crunch with Berries, and it shows. Compared to Cap’n Crunch, it’s a little more crunchy, thick, and rough, the flavor isn’t as pronounced and discernable, colors are much less vibrant, and the cereal pieces are often found stuck together from the factory and are also a little larger than its counterpart. The sweetness level is about the same; it’s fairly sweet, although the taste is a bit odd, and you can’t really make out the differences between the Berries and other cereal pieces, it’s all kind of the same dullish taste. In milk, it stays mostly crunchy and the flavor remains mostly the same. The cereal milk does capture a bit of the taste.
I’m not sure when Amazon released this cereal although reviews date back a few years.
Kashi Simply Raisin
Fairly crunchy. These don’t seem as thick as Mini Wheats and instead are a little more flimsy yet still solid. The wheat shell itself is wheaty and more natural tasting than Mini Wheats, and the 1-2 tiny raisins in the middle helps edge out Mini Wheats in terms of sweetness. In milk, these get soft and spongy quite quickly and they lose a tad of their sweetness. Cereal milk is pretty plain.
Released June 23, 2021.
Great Value Strawberry Lemonade
Fairly crunchy texture that softens just a little in milk. It has a pleasant, semi-sweet strawberry lemonade-like taste. This lemonade flavor isn’t overpowering or too punchy. In milk, the flavor seems to come out a bit more, and the cereal milk does absorb a little of that strawberry lemonade flavor.
Released for a limited time to Walmart stores in May 2023 alongside Cotton Candy and Cinnamon Mini Donut cereals.
Pumpkin Pie Spice Frosted Mini Wheats
Around the same sweetness as regular Mini Wheats but with a light but bold pumpkin spice flavor. In milk, a little bit of that sweetness and pumpkin flavor is lost to the milk.
Released around late summer 2015 for the fall season. These have seemingly been rereleased around the same period each year.
Three Wishes Chocolate-Covered Strawberry
The smell is pretty good, like light strawberry. Immediately, I noticed the loops were quite large, larger than Froot Loops for example. Eating it dry, it tastes a lot like a mild strawberry, not much chocolate. In milk though, the chocolate comes out more, making even the milk a little chocolatey. Together with the light strawberry, it’s a decent combination. Texture is crunchy but softens slightly in milk.
The Three Wishes company came about in 2019. This cereal is limited edition and exclusive to the Valentine’s season. Likely first released in beginning 2022.
Wonderworks Keto Friendly Cereal – Chocolate
First off, the texture, the inside of these chocolate balls don’t feel thick, they’re hollow-like, it’s odd. The chocolate flavor is off-dark tasting, mildly sweet chocolate. Overall, odd texture and tasting cereal but not too terrible.
Wonderworks made its debut some time in early-mid 2021 with chocolate and other flavored cereals.
IHOP Blueberry & Syrup Mini Pancake Cereal
Lightly sweet, blueberry flavored, crunchy cereal. There is a small corn-like flavor to them in the background. Despite trying to imitate pancakes, these remain crunchy in milk. The cereal milk isn’t that great.
Cocoa Pebbles Crunch’d
A lot less chocolatey and less flavorful than Cocoa Pebbles as these are puffed and airy. Remains crunchy in milk. Chocolate cereal milk is OK but not as good as Cocoa Pebbles milk.
Released in early January 2023 alongside Fruity Pebbles Crunch’d.
Lucky Charms Minis
Better than the original size! These are smaller and the marshmallows seem more abundant and contribute more to their flavor. Indeed, the flavor is a tad sweeter and has a noticeable vanilla marshmallow taste to them unlike the more plain original sized ones. These also get softer in milk quicker due to size. Cereal milk is still fairly plain.
Released April 2023 alongside Cocoa Puffs Minis and other cereals.
Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir Strawberry Macaron Cereal
Wow, these do smell a lot like a strawberry macaron! Taste though… a super light, semi-sweet, creamy strawberry. In milk though, the flavor comes out a bit more but it still needs more of it along with more sugar. The texture almost reminds me of Cap’n Crunches Berries but these are softer and not as rough. In milk, they soften although remain crunchy. There also weren’t many marshmallows and the ones that were there weren’t noticable.
Released April 2023.
Magic Spoon – Maple Waffle
Lightly sweet and a bit off-tasting. A bit like maple but something was a little odd. Stays crunchy in milk.
Magic Spoon launched in 2019 with a variety of cereals.
Magic Spoon – Fruity
Reminds me of a slightly sweet version of fruit loops (not nearly as sweet as fruity pebbles though). The fruit taste is slightly off, almost card-boardy. Stays crunchy in milk. Milk doesn’t get that fruity.
Magic Spoon launched in 2019 with a variety of cereals.
Raisin Bran Maple Flavor
The same texture as regular Raisin Bran except for a maple-like taste. Iinstead of the typical oat, wheat bran taste, it’s mostly replaced with a light but still sweet sugary maple flavoring. The maple flavor could have been a little stronger despite the cereal already being on the sweet side — the sweetness tastes mostly like pure sugar.
Released May 2023.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem Cinnamon Apple
Oddly reminds me of the flavor of apple sauce. It has a light cinnamon and apple taste that is in no way overpowering, in fact, it could use a tad more sweetness. The texture is crunchy aside from the regular tasting soft marshmallows. Gets slightly softer in milk but still crunchy. Decent dry as well. Cereal milk is OK, almost a bit plain.
Released May / June 2023 to coincide with the upcoming related movie. Likely limited edition.
Frosted Mini Wheats Cinnamon Roll
Like the originals but an extremely light cinnamon taste. Unfortunately, it was pretty bland and was missing the cinnamon and sugary sweetness.
Released 2012 and was discontinued some time later. Later rereleased December 2020.
KitKat Cereal
A lightly airy, puffy, and crispy regular chocolate cereal. The texture is puffy and somewhat crunchy, the taste however, is the most generic chocolate you can think of. It’s not too sweet but it isn’t underwhelming either. Doesn’t get much softer in milk and the cereal milk is just OK. Kind of a boring, generic chocolate cereal.
Released May 2023.
Cheerios Oat Crunch Almond
Much better than regular Cheerios. Overall, not bad, the almonds and grains make these Cheerios a lot better and it seems a tad sweeter which makes a world of difference. Texture is great with the almonds and grains. The Cheerio rings are similar to regular Cheerios, perhaps slightly softer in milk, and the milk is tastier due to more sweetness. Not nearly as sweet or tasty as Honey Bunches of Oats, these instead have a more hearty taste.
Released April 2021.
Pop-Tarts – Strawberry
For whatever reason, putting these in milk reduced the flavor quite a bit. At best, they’re OK.
Released September 1994. It was discontinued a year later and brought back in late 2018 / early 2019 alongside Brown Sugar Cinnamon, although both were later seemingly discontinued.
Pop-Tarts – Brown Sugar Cinnamon
Pretty decent overall, although it needed more of that brown sugar cinnamon Pop-Tart flavor.
Released September 1994. It was discontinued a year later and brought back in late 2018 / early 2019 alongside Strawberry, although both were later seemingly discontinued.
Wendy’s Frosty
A less chocolatey version than cocoa puffs. Overall, pretty generic and boring chocolate tasting.
Gingerbread Toast Crunch
If you made a gingerbread house and forgot the frosting, this would be it. It’s moderately sweet with a gingerbread and sugar taste, almost resembling Cinnamon Toast Crunch. In milk, the taste and sweetness mellows out, becoming overall a hint bitter. Nowhere near as good as other Cinnamon Toast Crunch versions.
Released around October 2023 for a limited time to celebrate the winter season.
Frosted Mini Wheats
Thick and lightly sweet, very wheaty taste. They’re OK with or without milk. In milk, they do soften up quite a bit and when you’re drinking your cereal milk, you’ll likely find some yummy soggy chunks at the bottom.
Chips Ahoy!
These remind me of Cookie Crisp albeit, these have slightly more flavor and sweetness overall. They’re semi-sweet and have a noticable corn-chocolate taste to them. The texture is crunchy and in milk, they remain pretty crunchy as well. Cereal milk is mostly plain. Really, not much like a Chips Ahoy! cookie primarily due to that cereal corn taste.
Released January 2024 for a limited time alongside Mega Stuf Oreo O’s. These were originally released in 2018 and discontinued some time after.
Snoop Cereal Frosted Drizzlers
I cannot tell the difference between these and Frosted Mini Wheats in terms of everything, from taste to texture. Aside from that, the cereal box is quite small and there aren’t many servings inside, especially when considering it’s a lot more money than their counterparts.
Snoop Dogg and Master P released this cereal alongside Fruity Hoopz and Cinnamon Toasteez summer 2023. Initially released on Amazon and then in stores some time later.
Corn Flakes
Despite not being at all sweet, I enjoy the corn flavor and really like the texture in milk, it gets so soft!
Overwatch Lucio-Oh’s
These have a fairly strong vanilla-like taste. The texture is fairly rough, crunchy, and stays crunchy in milk.
Revealed at Blizzcon 2018 by Kellogg’s, these released in December of that year for a limited time.
