Reviewing Hostess Maple Glazed Donettes, Kettle Tailgate Chips, & More

Updated:

This snack review has Hostess Maple Glazed Donettes, Kettle Tailgate Edition 7 Layer Dip, Melster Candies Peanut Butter Kisses, Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Rolls, and Russell Stover Halloween Caramel Apple Candy Pumpkin. Two of these, the maple donuts and the pumpkin spice rolls were absolutely amazing and tasty. Unfortunately, the Melster Peanut Butter candies were no where close and brought down the overall snack haul.

Hostess Maple Glazed Donettes

Score: 8.5 / 10

Front package of Hostess Maple Glazed Donettes.

Compared to other Donettes, especially the powdered ones, the texture of these is so much different. These are very moist and soft, and aren’t at all crumbly or even messy like other Donettes. They have a nice maple and mostly sugary taste, making them fairly sweet overall.

Likely released sometime around late summer 2015 for the fall season. These have returned every year since. Found at Stop & Shop.

Kettle Tailgate Edition 7 Layer Dip

Score: 7 / 10

Front package of Kettle Tailgate Edition 7 Layer Dip chips.

If a taco seasoned chip and a Dorito had a kid, this would be it. It’s well seasoned, has a very small kick to it, and is overall tasty. Each chip is coated quite a bit and I noticed the texture of the chips, while crunchy, aren’t as crunchy or “hard” as regular kettle chips. Is this because of the coating? I’m not sure!

Likely released September 2023.

Melster Candies Peanut Butter Kisses

Score: 4.5 / 10

Front package of Melster Candies Peanut Butter Kisses.

Semi-sweet peanuty taste. The texture is a bit thick, a little chewy, and kind of waxy. There’s just a super tiny little center filling that doesn’t seem to add anything. Tastes and feels cheap overall. Even as a peanut butter lover, this just wasn’t it.

Melster Candies has been around since 1919 although I’m not sure when this was released. Found at Dollar Tree.

Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Rolls

Score: 9 / 10

About your typical tasting pumpkin roll but a cheaper, sweeter version. These are fairly sweet and have a nice pumpkin spice taste that isn’t too much. The cream on the inside tastes a bit like light cream cheese but for the most part, it’s just sugary sweet. Texture is also typical of a pumpkin roll, soft, a bit moist, and easy to bite through. Interestingly, these are also great straight from the fridge!

Likely released around September 2015 according to their website and reviews. These only are released around late summer / early fall.

Russell Stover Halloween Caramel Apple Candy Pumpkin

Score: 7 / 10

Front package of Russell Stover Halloween Pumpkin Caramel Apple milk chocolate candy pumpkin.

The texture is soft with a thick soft center of apple caramel tasting filling surrounded by a thin layer of sweet milk chocolate. The filling is mostly caramel flavored with a bit of apple and together, it’s a pretty sweet combination. I wish it had more of an apple flavor to balance it out.

Released many years ago at some point. These usually come around in the late summer and early fall for the Halloween season. Found at Stop & Shop.
