Overall Review & Verdict
As the name suggests, My Cookie Dealer offers a variety of protein treats in cookie and pastry form. These treats have a lower-than-average protein-to-calorie ratio, meaning many of their products are high in calories while offering modest levels of protein. The ingredients consist primarily of whey protein, cane syrups and sugars, oils, and other ingredients. Notably, the carbs are very high from the cane sugar they use.
Opening the variety box up, I did expect to see cookies, I mean, it’s in the name, and the box states “Cookies + Toaster Pastries.” However, it consisted only of toaster pastries. Each is individually wrapped.
In appearance, they resemble a premium version of Pop-Tarts, both in terms of the pastry itself and the amount of filling you get. These feel like a mix of a thick cookie and a Pop-Tarts, basically. Lastly, each pastry has a thin layer of frosting and a generous amount of sprinkles/toppings that extends even to the bottoms, as if they were tossed in them — well-decorated, to say the least.
Biting in, they didn’t have any weird or protein aftertastes, and given how chunky they are, they were very fulfilling! Honestly, regular Pop-Tarts are more artificial and dry than these — there is simply no comparison, to say the least.
Overall, as a Pop-Tarts fan, I’d recommend these. They mostly resemble and taste similar to their counterparts, but are generally less sweet and, as I said, more substantial and larger. Definitely worth a try!
Flavor Ranking
1. Frosted Apple Pie
Tastes just like an apple pie in pastry form. It’s fairly sweet, perhaps the sweetest here, and has a buttery graham flavor from the pastry and sweet apple from the inside. At times, it became too sugary sweet, and I had to back off a bit and get a drink! Overall, these really do feel and taste very similar to an apple pie in pastry form that was, well, frosted or had more sugar added.
2. Frosted Strawberry
I love all the sprinkles throughout the entire pastry, which provide a nice, tiny crunch. In terms of taste, they’re very reminiscent of regular Strawberry Pop-Tarts but less punchy. Essentially, they have that iconic artificial strawberry taste of regular Pop-Tarts. Overall, they are just a little less sweet than those and, of course, much thicker and more substantial.
3. Frosted Blueberry
Looks just like its frosted strawberry cousin, but blue themed. It’s fairly sweet but not as sweet as Blueberry Pop-Tarts, though it shares a similar flavor profile: lightly punchy and a little sour, with an artificial blueberry flavor. The generous sprinkles also add a slight crunch.
4. Frosted Cookies & Cream
Less sweet than the fruit-based flavor pastries, about the same level as Hot Fudge Sundae. It is dusted with a darker cocoa on its dark cookie pastry shell, and inside is vanilla cream. This one’s just a little drier and less sweet than the others, but it’s still sweet enough and enjoyable overall. It sports a primarily darker chocolate cookie flavor with a light creaminess. Honestly, it could use more creaminess if anything, as the dark chocolate is nearly perfect, but unfortunately, it overwhelms the pastry. Think Oreo cookie, but not quite as creamy or sweet.
5. Hot Fudge Sundae
Less sweet than the fruit-based flavor pastries, about the same level as Frosted Cookies & Cream. These literally have a brownie-batter consistency in the center: it’s thin and a little stretchy — looks good! Overall, the pastry has an authentic, mostly graham-cracker taste with a lighter dark chocolate. It’s quite pleasantly tasty, and reminds me of s’mores, not necessarily a hot fudge sundae, though. If anything, I think it could use a bit more sweetness to make the ice cream sundae flavor pop more… or perhaps add some marshmallow and call it s’mores!
